When she’s wearing her teaching hat, kids call her Ms. H because her real name is either too hard to remember or pronounce (Hoermann rhymes with German, and that’s what kind of name it is).
But when she’s writing, her name is Serena Schreiber, which means ‘writer’ in German. Her debut novel won a Royal Palm Literary Award in 2011.
Serena likes smiling, seeing kids smile and especially seeing kids smile at her. So that’s why she likes teaching. She also loves to read and to travel. She rides her bike every day, if possible.
Serena lived in Germany where her husband and son were born. Her daughter was born in Florida. Their family visits Germany as often as they can.
Serena is a teaching artist at Blue Planet Writers Room. Learn more at www.SerenaSchreiber.com
